Internships & Supervision

Practical experience and support on the path to behavioral health careers

Internships and supervised practice are a key part of many behavioral health careers. The Behavioral Health Consortium helps connect students, interns, supervisors, and placement sites across the Columbia Gorge.

Our role is to support coordination, access, and shared understanding—so internships and supervision are easier to navigate for everyone involved.

For Students and Interns

If you are pursuing a degree or certification in a behavioral health field, internships can help you gain real‑world experience and build confidence.

Through the Consortium, students and interns may be able to:

  • learn about internship opportunities in the region

  • connect with placement sites and supervisors

  • understand the general steps involved in internship and supervision

  • explore financial or support resources when available

Internships allow you to:

  • apply what you are learning in school

  • build practical skills

  • explore different work settings

  • strengthen your professional network

About Clinical Supervision

Supervisors and organizations play a vital role in preparing the next generation of behavioral health professionals.

The Consortium works to:

  • support shared expectations around internships and supervision

  • help connect supervisors and sites with students and interns

  • strengthen local education‑to‑practice pathways

Participation is flexible and varies by organization, capacity, and role.

Clinical supervision is required for many behavioral health roles and licenses. It helps ensure safe, ethical, and effective practice while supporting professional growth.

In the Columbia Gorge, supervision may include:

  • individual or group supervision

  • supervision connected to internships or post‑degree practice

  • support for associates working toward licensure

The Consortium’s role is to help connect and share information, not to regulate or provide licensure decisions.

Planning Ahead

Internships and supervision opportunities often depend on timing, school requirements, and site capacity. Exploring options early can help you plan your next steps.
